Simon Middlecote Architecture

A bit about me

Simon Middlecote Architecture is a small scale architectural practice based in West Bridgford in Nottinghamshire. Formed in 2017 by myself Simon Middlecote! I am a fully qualified Architect registered with the Architects Registration Board and the Royal Institute of British Architects.

I have previously worked at large and small scale practices in Nottingham and the Derbyshire Dales working on a wide range of projects from small domestic extensions, through to £50m headquarters.

A bit about what I do

I can provide the full range of Architectural Services from feasibility studies through to contract administration. The bulk of my work is concentrated on domestic works including extensions and remodelling, retrofit and energy efficiency as well as small new build and conservation works. Increasingly this involves assessing options for building services on a project looking at the most appropriate solutions for space heating, hot water generation, ventilation and on site power generation.

No job is too small. There is always a problem to solve and the size of a project isn't necessarily related to how interesting it is or could be.

A bit about how I work

An initial contact with a potential client will usually be followed up with an on-site consulation to take a brief and look at potential options for the project. This will then be followed up with a proposed scope of service and fee proposal. This will be broken down by 'workstage' based upon the Royal Institute of British Architects plan of work.

I don't approach any project with a pre-conceived idea about what the solution should or shouldn't be. I'm keen for any project to be a collaboration between myself and the client. Exploring a number of different options at an early stage is an important, and fun part of the process.

Understanding how options stack up in terms of cost, logistics, planning, building regulations and health and safety as well as Architecture (with a capital A) is key to ensuring that we arrive at the most appropriate solution for the client.

As a minimum I tend to stay with a project up to and including detailed design - what some people refer to as 'Building Regs' stage. I can also provide an extended service and stay with a project through the tendering and construction phases if the client wishes.

If I think I will add value to a project by spending more time on it I let the client know. Equally, if I think a project can proceed from a particular stage without further input from myself I will let a client know that as well.

If you think that approach would suit you and your project then you can get in touch here
